In 2016, homicides made up less than 1 percent of Canada’s violent crimes. Canadian Police Services reported 543 homicides in 2016, translating to a homicide rate of about 1.55 per 100,000 people. Despite these statistics, however, there are currently 3,400 unsolved murders in Canada, dating back to 1961. Each year, one in four murders go unsolved.
